The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is reminding the public to use caution due to rising water levels in rivers and streams.
The conservation authority issued a safety message on Thursday, in response to the forecast of 30-45 mm of rainfall over the next 24 to 36 hours. The rain is expected to impact the Upper Thames River basin.
"Streams and rivers will begin rising overnight Thursday, and will continue to rise throughout the day Friday," said Mark Helsten, UTRCA senior water resources engineer. "We expect watercourses to peak upstream beginning late Friday night/early Saturday morning, with peaks moving downstream throughout the weekend."
Flooding is not expected at this time, however, there is the potential for water to spill into low lying floodplain areas if more rain falls than expected.
Water levels will most likely remain high over the weekend and into early next week.
