A Norfolk County man is facing charges after two dogs were left inside a hot vehicle for an extended period of time.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Monday around 3pm, officers were called to the Foodland parking lot on Bay St. Port Rowan, after concerned citizens noticed the two dogs.

Officers eventually located the vehicle and the driver.

As a result, 66-year-old John McAnsh of Norfolk County has been charged with leaving an animal unattended in a motor vehicle.  He was also issued a Provincial Offences Notice.

Police are asking residents to be keep an eye out for any animals that have been left unattended in a vehicle.

"If you see an animal in a vehicle on a warm or humid day who you believe may be in distress, gather as much information as you can. Obtain the make, model and licence plate of the vehicle, and immediately enter the store and have the owner paged and contact police," said Constable Ed Sanchuk in a news release.
