Suspicious Package Deemed Non-Explosive

A suspicious package that sparked the evacuation of London's Central Library over the weekend was not an explosive device.

London police said the package was removed by officers with the Explosive Disposal Unit roughly six hours after it was discovered by a citizen in the washroom of the Dundas St. library around 4pm on Sunday. It was then taken to a secure location where investigators determined it was a non-explosive device.

Police have not released any additional information about the contents of the package.

"The investigation into who is responsible for leaving the package in the library is on-going," said Constable Sandasha Bough. "We are looking for any information in relation to this incident. If anyone knows who may be responsible, please give us a call."

As a precaution, Dundas St. between Clarence St. and Wellington St. was closed for several hours Sunday night as emergency crews investigated.
