Lindros, Goodall Among Western Honorary Degree Recipients

A Hockey Hall of Fame member and a world-famous anthropologist are among 18 people who will be given honorary degrees at Western University this spring.

Eric Lindros and Jane Goodall were among the names on the list of people who will be honoured by the University at convocation ceremonies in April, May, and June.

Lindros, who played 13 seasons in the NHL before retiring after several concussions, will be honoured with a Doctor of Laws degree on June 18. Since his retirement, Lindros has donated time and money toward concussion research in London. His $5-million gift established the Lindros Legacy Research Building at the London Health Sciences Centre.

At a special ceremony on April 25, the university will honour anthropologist Jane Goodall. Her decades of work with chimpanzees has led to her being considered the world's foremost expert on the subject.

This year's other honourees include: Alastair Buchan, an internationally renowned clinical neurologist and experimental neuroscientist. Bill Troost, President, CEO, and Founder of Peel Plastics Limited. Donald Triggs, co-founder of Jackson Triggs wine. Andy and Helen Spriet, entrepreneurs and community builders. Geoff Beattie, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Generation Capital. Paul Hebert, Canada Research Chair in Molecular Biodiversity. John Kelton, Executive Director of the Michael G. DeGroote Initiative for Innovation in Healthcare at McMaster University. Dr. Stephen Scherer, recognized as a scientific world leader in the study of human genomics. Maria Klawe , President of Harvey Mudd College. Jo-Ann Leavey, psychologist, nurse, writer, poet, musician, and pilot. Antoni Cimolino, Artistic Director at Stratford Festival. Nora Aufreiter, former Senior Partner and Director of McKinsey & Company. Jonathan Meakins, an internationally renowned expert in immunobiology. David Shore, Emmy-winning television writer and producer. Farah Mohamed, CEO of Malala Fund.
