Pot Shop Break-In Prompts Police Raid

First, a downtown marijuana dispensary was broken into, then it was raided by London police who seized over $90,00 worth of illegal drugs.

Officers were called to the London Relief Centre at 691 Richmond St. after a break-in around 6:15am on Sunday. While making a hasty getaway from the scene, the thief dropped $25,740 worth of pot on the ground, according to police.

The break-in prompted members of the police Guns and Drugs Section to search the illegal business. Inside they found 57 vials of THC infused body oil, 146 vials of THC infused vaporizing, 14 vials of THC infused massage oil, 3,655g of marijuana shake, 959g of marijuana bud, two THC infused bath bombs, 590g of cannabis resin, 191 THC pills, 55 pieces of THC infused fudge, 16 THC infused face mask, and 38 THC infused gummies.

The approximate value of the drugs seized is $64,910.

The business owner, a 22-year-old Toronto man, is charged with three counts of possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking.

This is the second time police have raided the Richmond St. pot shop since it opened last September. Unlike other dispensaries, it did not require its customers to have a medical marijuana prescription.

“Trafficking marijuana is still against the law and while it is illegal in Canada, we will be enforcing those laws,” said Constable Sandasha Bough.

When recreational marijuana is legalized, which is expected to happen this summer, sales of it in Ontario will be tightly controlled. Premier Kathleen Wynne announced last fall all sales of cannabis will be done at 150 stand-alone stores run by the LCBO. London is slated to get at least one of the first 40 shops when they open in the province.

Police are still investigating the robbery at the London Relief Centre and ask anyone with information to call them at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
