London police are sending out a warning after officers seized what is suspected to be a deadly narcotic from two men found sleeping in a parked car.
Around 9am Monday, officers were called to a parking lot in the area of Highbury Ave. and Cheapside St. The officers found illegal narcotics in plain view, including a substance that appeared to be similar to what is known as "purple fentanyl."
The substance, described as having the consistency of play dough, has been seized in other jurisdictions and found to be a mixture of heroin and fentanyl or carfentanil.
"While test results of this seizure won’t be known for a period of time, London police are concerned there is a significant potential of overdose to those who may come into contact with this substance and are warning people to avoid any substance of a similar description," police said in a statement released Thursday.
The two men were arrested and were each charged with two counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking. Charges related to the 3 g of purple substance have not been laid, pending an analysis of the substance.
The man who was behind the wheel of the car is charged with having care and control of a motor vehicle while ability impaired by drugs.
In addition to the suspected purple fentanyl, police also seized 11.5 g of fentanyl powder and 28 g of cocaine.
