Finding Cause Of Hook's Fire Could Be Difficult

It could be a very hard job for investigators trying to figure out what caused the fire that destroyed the former Hook's Restaurant.

Fire broke out in the building Tuesday evening, sending into the sky giant plumes of smoke that could be seen several kilometres away. More than 30 London firefighters battled the blaze for several hours, before dousing the flames late in the evening.

A fire truck was back on the scene on Wednesday morning, as firefighters dealt with a few flare ups.

Deputy Fire Chief Jack Burt says, given that all that remains of the building is a pile of rubble, investigators looking for the cause of the fire have their work cut out for them.

"It does make it more difficult because it's hard to see fire patterning and see where the fire was compared to when the building was knocked down," he said Wednesday.

Burt says an excavator was brought to the scene to help in the investigation, which so far, hasn't provided many clues as to the origin of the blaze.

"We're still very early in the investigation," he said. "The excavator is helping us pull the rubble apart so we can see what we can see. Right now, the cause of the fire is still under investigation."

No injuries were reported.
