Western Fair Farmer's Market Expands To Sundays

Londoners will soon be able to peruse the Western Fair Farmer's Market on Sundays.

The second weekly shopping day at the east London market will begin October 6, the same day the Western Fair Association marks one year since taking over the operation.

Association officials have said the additional shopping day will provide options for current market attendees and provide a feature to market to new audiences, looking for innovative Sunday social opportunities with friends, while grabbing a bite and shopping.

“Our objective when the Western Fair Association took over market ownership was to enhance and grow the market, which already came with tremendous community and customer appeal. We believe we can attract more customers for our unique artisans and vendors, grow the business and find fun, educational ways to link our agricultural mandate to the market," said Heather Blackwell, Director of Urban and Rural Affairs.

Sunday hours at the market will be 10am to 3pm, which is slightly shorter than what customers are use to on Saturdays. The market is open 8am to 3pm on Saturdays.

In addition to the expanded shopping days, the farmer's market will see a bit of a makeover to it Confederation Building home, with $400,000 in upgrades starting this summer. The renovations will include washroom enhancements and more cooler storage. New doors, windows and HVAC upgrades are also planned for 2019 and 2020.

“The market is an important neighbourhood landmark, supported since its inception by those that live and work in the area, providing a unique shopping experience, a community meeting place and successful business that draws visitors from near and far to Old East Village," said Jen Pastorius, manager of the Old East Village BIA. "I am excited to see the growth of this Old East Village asset and the investment the Western Fair Association is making in the Confederation Building to ensure the success of its vendors and an expanded market.”
