Overnight street parking ends

Londoners are no longer allowed to park their cars on the street overnight without a permit.

The annual summer program that allows overnight street parking came to an end Tuesday. The ban on overnight street parking will be lifted, as it is each year, on the Victoria Day weekend. Until then, anyone wanting or needing to park their vehicle on a residential street between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. will need to acquire an overnight parking pass.

According to the City of London, a maximum of 15 free passes may be issued per vehicle license plate. Each pass is valid for one night of parking. Vehicle owners can obtain passes online at www.london.ca or by calling 519-661-4537. Passes can also be obtained in person at the Parking Services Office at 824 Dundas St.

"Until November 1, passes may be obtained in advance or day of as required. Between November 1 and April 15 passes will not be issued more than 48 hours in advance to help mitigate weather concerns," the city said in a statement. "Over the winter months, overnight parking may be restricted to allow snow clearing operations. At such times when passes are revoked, pass holders will be notified via email, provided a valid email was included with the pass request."

The city is reminding motorists that overnight parking, even with a permit, is not allowed where parking is otherwise prohibited. That includes in front of fire hydrants, on boulevards or front lawns, or on streets that are identified as exempt from on-street parking. A complete list of those streets is available online.
