Riley Coome's first-ever OHL goal turned out to be the game-winner for the London Knights.
London put the game away with two late goals in their 4-2 win over the Kitchener Rangers Saturday night at Budweiser Gardens. The Knights maintain their lead in the OHL Western Conference standings, with 78 points.
It wasn't long before the Knights got on the board first. Liam Foudy put the puck in at 2:16 into the opening period. That would be the only goal of the first 20 minutes. London outshot Kitchener in that period 11-10.
There was no scoring in the second period, and the Knights found themselves more aggressive against the net, outshooting the Rangers 14-9 in the middle period.
The game remained 1-0 London until Greg Meireles tied the game for the Rangers at 5:12. Adam Boqvist gave the Knights back the lead about six minutes later with his 12th goal of the season, only to have the Rangers tie the game again a minute and 20 seconds later with Riley Damiani's goal. Coome's goal came at 18:02 in the third, then the Rangers knocked the puck into their own net to seal it for the Knights. Alex Turko got credit for the goal.
Jordan Kooy had 24 saves out of 26 attempts in net for London. Lucas Pfeil had 38 stops for Kitchener.
The Knights return to action Friday night when they host the Owen Sound Attack.
