London man accused of sexually assaulting infant daughter

A child pornography investigation that began last month has ended with a London man being accused of sexually assaulting his daughter when she was just six-months-old.

Between January 23 and February 2, Toronto police spoke with a man through an internet chat site and found information regarding what is considered to be a historic sexual assault case involving an infant.

The information was shared with the London police service, which then searched a south-end home on Wednesday. Officers seized a computer tablet with several images of suspected child pornography and eight grams of methamphetamine.

A 38-year-old London man was arrested and charged with 10 offences including sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age, sexual exploitation of a young person, sexual interference, unlawfully possessing and accessing child pornography, and importing, selling and distributing child pornography.

He is scheduled to appear in London court on February 12. His name is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim. Police confirmed the girl no longer lives with the accused and the Children’s Aid Society has been notified.

“This investigation illustrates the link that exists between the consumption of child pornography and child sexual abuse,” London police Detective Sergeant Glenn Hadley said in a statement. “The combined work of the two police services highlights the value of the Provincial Strategy in combating child pornography.”
