Arkells, Sarah McLachlan round out Junos performers

With just over a week to go until the Juno Awards are handed out in London, the final list of performers and presenters has been released.

The Arkells, whose bass player is a London native, will take the stage at the 2019 celebration of Canadian music being held at Budweiser Gardens on March 17. Toronto born folk singer Bahamas and hip-hop recording artist and three-time Juno Award nominee NAV have also been added to the evening's star-studded musical line-up. Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Sarah McLachlan, who is already slated to host the 48th annual awards show, will pull double duty by joining Juno Award winner Whitehose for a special performance.

Shawn Mendes, who leads the pack with six Juno nominations, will appear in a taped performance from Europe. The pop sensation from Pickering, Ontario is currently on the European leg of his world tour and unable to attend the awards in person.

“I love my fans and my country, and I hope everyone enjoys what we have in store all the way from Europe,” Mendes said in a statement.

Previously announced performers for the annual celebration of Canadian music include London dance music duo Loud Luxury, German-Canadian singer/songwriter bülow, francophone singer-songwriter and pianist Coeur de pirate, Indigenous tenor and composer Jeremy Dutcher, Quebec rapper Loud, country music duo The Reklaws, and 2019 Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Corey Hart.

London-born Olympic gold medalist Tessa Virtue has been tapped to help hand out the hardware. Other Juno Award presenters include political satirist and author Rick Mercer, Canada’s Godfather of hip-hop Maestro Fresh Wes, Quebec rocker Hubert Lenoir, and award-winning journalist Tanya Talaga.

Tickets for the event are still available at the Budweiser Gardens box office, online at budweisergardens.com, or by calling 1-866-455-2849. Prices start at $79.95 (plus fees).

Juno week kicks off on Monday in London with hundreds of events planned at dozens of venues throughout the city leading up to the award show at 8p.m. on St. Patrick's Day.
