Two days after sledgehammer-wielding suspects robbed a west London jewellery store making off with a significant amount of merchandise, four men have been charged.
The smash-and-grab robbery at Gordon's Gold Jewellers at 760 Hyde Park Rd. began just before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday when a car pulled up in front of the store and two men wearing masks went inside. They told employees to get on the floor while they smashed display cases with a sledgehammer. According to London police, the men snatched a "significant amount of jewellery" before they got back into the awaiting car and took off.
Police were able to follow the car to a location on River Road in the Oneida of the Thames First Nation. With help from the OPP, Strathroy-Caradoc police, and Oneida of the Thames police, four men were taken into custody.
Matthew Simpson, 34, of London, Troy Wolfe, 30 of London, Mason Ireland, 25, of no fixed address, and Nevin McCrea 29, of no fixed address, are charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
All four men appeared in London court in relation to the charges on Wednesday. They were remanded in custody.
