Five charged in 2015 pharmacy robbery

Four years after a bogus armed robbery call sent police scrambling to a south-end pharmacy while masked men robbed a different drug store, five London men have been arrested.

London police stated Wednesday new information led to a break in the case.

Police had been searching for suspects since January 26, 2015, when an early morning call about an armed robbery saw police rush to a pharmacy on Southdale Road East. When officers arrived on scene they determined the reported robbery was false.

However, while police were at the Southdale Road pharmacy, two masked men walked into a drug store on Commissioners Road East, pulled a weapon and demanded prescription drugs from the pharmacist. The men then took off with an undisclosed quantity of narcotics.

At the time, police indicated the two incidents were related.

However, in the years that followed there was little movement in the case, until March 19 when new information was provided to police.

“An investigation may lie dormant for a period of time, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is forgotten. Especially with crimes involving violence, our determined investigators remain persistent in their efforts to follow up on leads, regardless of when they surface,” Detective Sergeant Ryan Scrivens said in a statement.

Tamim Khan Heidary, 26, Ahmad Jamal, 30, Sammy A Reali, 29, Mehrab Gorgij, 26, and Mohammad Jamal, 34, all of London, are charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Heidary and Jamal are additionally charged with wearing a disguise with intent, while Jamal is additionally charged with public mischief for reporting an offence had been committed when it had not been.

All five men will appear in London court in relation to the charged next month.
