Police in London are partnering with a medical information service in an effort to better protect the city's most vulnerable.
The London Police Service announced on Wednesday that it would be joining forces with MedicAlert Foundation Canada to utilize the MedicAlert Connect Protect, a service that will help officers quickly identify and locate missing vulnerable individuals in the event of an emergency.
“When we are searching for missing vulnerable people, it is critical to have as much information as possible about their circumstances and this is a great community partnership that will give us quick access to that information for those who are registered," said Deputy Chief Stuart Betts in a media release.
MedicAlert Connect Protect is a subscriber service that lets frontline police officers access vital information during an emergency. Information is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can include a person's recent photo, physical description, wandering history, behaviour management strategies, as well as caregiver information. All electronic health records are maintained by medically trained professionals.
MedicAlert, which has already partnered with several other policing agencies, has been known to assist those living with autism, Alzheimer’s, dementia, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, mental health-related issues, and cognitive brain injuries.
