As students prepare to head back to class, two teens face charges over a foolish act of mischief at the end of the last school year.
London police announced Tuesday that charges had been laid in connection with an incident at St. Andre Bessette Catholic Secondary School on Tokala Trail in northwest London. Around 12:20 p.m. on June 20, a vehicle pulled up to the school and a male dressed in a superhero costume got out and threw smoke bombs into the school before taking off.
According to police, the vehicle went to a second entrance to the school, where another person got out and threw smoke bombs into the cafeteria. Finally, the vehicle went to a third door and more smoke bombs were thrown into the school.
The smoke bombs caused the school's smoke alarms to go off, forcing the school to be evacuated.
"The students remained outside in the rain for approximately two hours while the school was ventilated," police said in a news release issued Tuesday afternoon. "No one required medical attention as a result of the incident. The school sustained approximately $500 in damages."
Two males, aged 17 and 18, are now charged with mischief under $5,000.
The 17-year-old is to appear in court on October 7, while the 18-year-old will appear in court on October 10.
