London police have a man in custody after a break-in led to two women being attacked in an east-end home.
According to police, a woman heard dogs barking at her neighbour's home on Mornington Avenue around 2:30 p.m. on August 30. Believing that no one should have been in the home at the time, she called a relative of the homeowner. Both women then went into the home, where they discovered an intruder.
One of the women was slashed with a knife before escaping, while the other was stabbed and confined to a bedroom. The woman who escaped the home called 911 and police came to the scene.
"Police negotiated with a man inside the residence and a suspect was taken into custody without further incident," police said in a news release issued Wednesday.
Gary Young, 40, of London is charged with break and enter, assault causing bodily harm, and forcible confinement.
The two women were taken to hospital. One was treated for minor injuries and released, while the other is still in hospital in stable condition.
An investigation led police to search the home on August 31. Officers seized a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, 25 rounds of ammunition, 618 grams of cocaine, 448 grams of marijuana, 3,000 grams of a cutting agent, a digital scale, and over $1,000 in cash.
Police now have an arrest warrant for the homeowner, 29-year-old Misty-Anne Tabetha Scheltgen-Collins. She is charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession for the purpose of selling
- Two counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon or prohibited device knowing no authority
- Possession of prohibited ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Possession of a loaded/unloaded regulated firearm
