A campaign volunteer in the riding of London North Centre was attacked while going door-to-to door on Sunday.
London North Centre Green Party candidate Carol Dyck took to Twitter Monday morning to post about the incident involving a member of her team.
"A young volunteer on her 1st time to #KnockonDoors was attacked at the door, sustaining injuries to her face. She is understandably shaken & upset. I share this as a reminder to all candidates & volunteers to stick together. Random acts happen," Dyck wrote.
She stated that her team had been knocking on doors in several neighbourhoods and that the incident has been reported to London police.
News of the assault was quickly met with outrage from the public and other candidates running locally in the upcoming federal election.
"So sorry to hear this, Carol. Sending love and support to your volunteer," London North Centre NDP candidate Dirka Prout replied to Dyck's Twitter thread.
Liz Snelgrove, who is running for the Conservative Party in London West, called the assault "completely unacceptable."
Yesterday, though, a young volunteer on her 1st time to #KnockonDoors was attacked at the door, sustaining injuries to her face. She is understandably shaken & upset. I share this as a reminder to all candidates & volunteers to stick together. Random acts happen. #ldnont #elxn43
