Three people taken to hospital after Highway 3 collision

Ontario Provincial Police are reminding people to wear their seatbelts after a serious collision on Highway 3 near Simcoe.

According to Norfolk County OPP, the collision happened around 9:30 a.m. Saturday between Turkey Point Road and Charlotteville Road 11.

Early investigation shows that a pickup truck going eastbound lost an unsecured load. The vehicle driving behind it then swerved to avoid the load and collided with a westbound vehicle.

Two adults and a young child were taken to the hospital with minor injuries as a result of the collision.

In a video on Twitter, OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk said the crash was a violent one, but the outcome could have been much worse

"It's seatbelts here, [that] saved some lives. We are very fortunate enough that we are not dealing with a fatal motor vehicle collision," said Sanchuk "I just want to point out to everybody...please make sure that you wear your seatbelts, make sure everyone in your vehicle is seatbelted in properly and fastened in properly because seatbelts do save lives."

The roadway was closed for several hours while police investigated, it has since reopened.

This collision comes just hours after a pedestrian was fatally struck on Highway 3 in Delhi.
