A fire that destroyed a home in south London late Thursday is being considered suspicious.
Fire crews were called to the home at 203 Commissioners Road East just before 11 p.m. According to London Fire Department Platoon Chief Colin Shewell, they weren't able to get inside the home because of the flames.
"We arrived to encounter heavy fire from the roof and the back area," Shewell said. "Our crews were able to hook up water supply in close proximity and were able to knock down the fire pretty quickly by defensive attack, which means outside. We don't go in the building."
It took 27 firefighters roughly an hour to extinguish the blaze.
Few details about the fire have been released, but Shewell confirmed no one was hurt.
"No one was in the house at the time," he said.
The home is believed to be a write off, with a damage estimate set at $1-million. The fire is being treated as suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.
As of Friday morning, several police cruisers remained on scene.
The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been called in.
