Food services at Bud Gardens fills the fridge at My Sisters' Place

Spectra Food Services at Budweiser Gardens has made a charitable decision in wake of the weekend's cancelled events.

The hospitality company donated around $1,000 worth of produce to My Sisters' Place in London. The food was meant to be used this weekend at Budweiser Gardens.

The food would have gone to waste after events were cancelled last minute due to the growing public safety concern surrounding the COVID-19 virus.

“In this time where a lot of Canadians are feeling uneasy, it’s nice to have some positive come out of this current situation,” said Brian Ohl, General Manager of Budweiser Gardens. “We’re glad that the produce we had in the building will go to good use and we’re proud of the work My Sisters' Place and other similar organizations do to give back to the community.”

My Sisters' Place provides support services to women who face multiple vulnerabilities including gender-based violence, physical and mental illnesses, homelessness or housing stability, substance use, and extreme poverty.

The women's advocacy group thanked Spectra and Budweiser Gardens on Twitter for the "generous" donation and said that the food will be put to good use. They added that the donation could not have come at a better time as they've seen a lack of fresh produce donations recently.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has stressed that the risk to the general public remains low. Many events and large gatherings have been cancelled since the World Health Organization declared the global outbreak a pandemic on Wednesday.
