For the first time in nearly two weeks, the number of daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 in London and Middlesex County has surpassed six.
The Middlesex London Health Unit reported eight new cases of the virus on Wednesday. That brings the region's total number of cases since the start of the outbreak to 567. The last time the number of cases reported in a single day climbed above six was on May 29 when eight cases, seven of which involved migrant workers from Elgin County, were reported.
Of the eight new cases reported over the last 24 hours, seven were in the city and none were associated with long-term care or retirement facilities.
There have been no additional deaths related to COVID-19 in the area since last Thursday. The death toll remains at 56.
Four more people who previously tested positive for the virus have since recovered, increasing the number of resolved cases in the region to 426.
There were two new cases confirmed in Elgin and Oxford counties on Wednesday. They are the first new cases in that area to be reported by Southwestern Public Health in over a week. The two counties now have a total case count of 75. The death toll remains unchanged at four. The number of resolved cases went up by one over the past 24 hours to 69.
Provincial public health officials recorded a slight bump in the number of new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. There were 251 confirmed new cases and 11 additional deaths across the province.
The latest cases raise the total number reported in Ontario since January to 31,341, with 25,380 of those resolved.
The province's total number of COVID-19 related deaths now stands at 2,475.
The number of people in hospital with the virus is down to 580. Of those, 118 are listed in the intensive care unit and 86 are hooked up to ventilators to help them breathe.
There were no additional outbreaks of the virus reported in Ontario long-term care homes since Tuesday. There have been 312 outbreaks confirmed across the province to-date.
A total of 19,941 people were tested for the virus over a 24-hour period. Currently, 13,897 cases are under investigation.
