No new COVID-19 cases in London, one in St. Thomas

There were zero new cases of COVID-19 reported in the London-area on Friday.

It is the first time in five days the Middlesex London Health Unit has had no one test positive for the virus. Since Monday, there have been 12 infected people in the region, including two retirement home workers and one long-term care facility staffer.

The city and county's case count stands at 719. There have been no additional deaths in the area since June 12.

Two more people previously diagnosed with the virus have recovered raising the number of resolved cases to 628.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit covering St. Thomas, Woodstock and Elgin and Oxford counties, reported just one new COVID-19 case over the past 24 hours. The most recent person to test positive is from St. Thomas, according to public health officials. Since the start of the pandemic, the region has recorded a total of 242 cases. The health unit's COVID-19 dashboard remains unavailable as it transitions from one database to another. It is expected to be back up and running on Monday. New lab-confirmed cases continue to be shared through the health unit’s social media pages in the meantime.

Provincially, there were more than 100 new cases of COVID-19.

Public health officials reported 131 new lab-confirmed infections on Friday.

However, Health Minister Christine Elliott was quick to note the number is an "overestimation" as data missing from multiple health units on Thursday were added to Friday's numbers.

"With the 11 missing public health units now having entered their numbers for Thursday and with all 34 units reporting Friday, Ontario has added 131 cases of #COVID19. Because of the data gap yesterday, today’s number is an overestimation of daily counts," Elliott tweeted.

On Thursday, 76 cases were reported.

Ontario now has a total case count of 41,179.

Three additional deaths were recorded across the province over the past 24 hours. The death toll is now 2,796.

Hospitalizations continue to decrease with 35 people in hospital. Of those, 13 are in the intensive care unit and seven are using a ventilator to breathe.

Another 106 infected Ontarians have recovered from the virus. That brings the total number of resolved cases to 37,397.

The province conducted more than 28,000 COVID-19 tests over the last 24 hours.
