London-Middlesex records two new COVID-19 cases, four recoveries

Two more people in London and Middlesex County have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Middlesex London Health Unit confirmed the two new cases on Wednesday. The slight rise in cases comes a day after the region reported zero new infections. The case count now sits at 732.

There were four more recoveries locally over the past 24 hours to bring the total number of resolved cases to 664.

No additional COVID-19 linked deaths have been reported in the city or county in nearly three months.

There are now just 11 active cases in the region.

It has been one week since Elgin and Oxford counties reported any new cases of COVID-19.

Southwestern Public Health, the region's health unit, last recorded new infections on August 26 when six additional cases were confirmed. Since then, the area's total number of cases has been unchanged at 254. Three people previously diagnosed with the virus have recovered since Tuesday, bringing the number of resolved cases to 242.

The two counties have reported five COVID-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic, with no new deaths since July 3.

There are seven ongoing cases in the area, four of which are in Aylmer.

Provincially, new cases continue to be in the triple-digits for a seventh straight day.

Public health officials said there were 133 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. That is up from 112 on Tuesday, 114 on Monday and 112 on Sunday.

Of Ontario’s 34 public health units, 29 reported five or fewer cases, 21 of them had zero new cases.

The province's total case count since the start of the pandemic has risen to 42,554.

Ontario's death toll remained unchanged at 2,812, with no new deaths reported on Wednesday.

The number of resolved cases went up by 137 to 38,506.

Currently, 60 infected Ontarians are in hospital receiving treatment, with 13 in the intensive care unit.

Over the past 24 hours, the province has processed an additional 24,004 COVID-19 tests.
