Police issue warning about suspicious man

London police are advising parents to have the talk with their kids about suspicious people.

The advice comes after a teenaged girl reported that a man in a minivan pulled up and offered her candy. The incident happened just before 6 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Edward Street and Elmwood Avenue in Old South, according to police.

"The adult male driver asked her if she wanted some candy. When the girl did not respond, the man drove away," police said in a news release issued Wednesday. "He did not exit the vehicle and did not speak to the girl any further. The vehicle may have been observed a second time in the area of Edward Street and Tecumseh Avenue before heading eastbound from that location."

Police said the girl told her parents, who then reported the incident to police.

The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 30 and 40. He had a slim build, dark hair that was short on the sides and back and longer on the top. He was missing some front teeth and may have had tattoos on his arms. He was wearing a t-shirt and had a black mask hanging from his chin. He spoke with a deep voice.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent in online anonymously to www.londoncrimestoppers.com.
