City officials have decided that keeping vehicles off Dundas Place on weekends will continue for another six weeks.
The City of London announced Thursday that the weekend road closures will go on until mid-October.
"Following a successful August pilot, the City of London, in partnership with Downtown London BIA, is continuing the Dundas Street weekend road closure between Talbot and Wellington streets until the end of the sidewalk patio season – October 16, 2020," a news release issued Thursday said. "This area of Dundas Place has become a pedestrian and cycling shared space on weekends as part of a pilot project supporting economic recovery."
Dundas Street between Wellington Street and Talbot Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 5 a.m. and again from Saturday at 4 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. The city said temporary loading zones in the area will be continued to support delivery and pickups.
When the project launched in July, the closures were in effect from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
"While Dundas Place is open, health measures remain in place to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the community," the city said. "Please continue to maintain physical distancing and follow all social gathering guidelines."
