For the third time this week, there were no new cases of COVID-19 reported in London and Middlesex County.
The Middlesex London Health Unit said with no additional cases confirmed on Friday, the region's total case count remains at 735. There have been seven new infections in the city and county since the start of the week with zero cases reported on Sunday, Tuesday, and now Friday.
The number of resolved cases in London and Middlesex went up by two over the past 24 hours to 669.
The death toll is unchanged at 57 with no additional deaths linked to COVID-19 since June 12.
In Elgin and Oxford counties, it is day nine with no new cases of the virus. The region's total number of infections since the start of the pandemic stands at 254.
Southwestern Public Health, the two counties' health unit, said there were no more recoveries reported in the area since Thursday. That leaves the total number of resolved cases at 244. There have been five COVID-19 related deaths in the region since January, with no additional deaths recorded in two months.
Elgin and Oxford currently have just five actives cases of the virus.
In Ontario, daily cases remain in the triple-digits.
Public health officials said Friday there were 148 new infections of the novel coronavirus. Day-to-day cases in Ontario have not dropped below 100 since August 26.
The largest spike in new cases on Friday came from the Peel Region.
"Peel is reporting 72 new cases, with 41 in Toronto and 13 in Ottawa," Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted. "Once again, every other public health unit is reporting five or fewer cases, with 12 units reporting no new cases."
The province’s total number of cases since the start of the pandemic is now 42,834.
There were no additional deaths in Ontario over the past 24 hours. However, one previously recorded death attributed to COVID-19 has been removed, which brings the death toll to 2,811.
Another 116 cases have been resolved to bring the total number of recoveries to 38,741.
There was a slight increase in the number of COVID-19 infected patients in hospitals across the province with 66 people admitted. Of those, 13 are in the intensive care unit and eight are relying on ventilators to breathe.
In the last 24 hour period, 28,591 additional COVID-19 tests were conducted in Ontario.
