While there have been no new COVID-19 cases in Elgin and Oxford in more than two weeks, London Middlesex has seen single-digit increases each day since Sunday.
The Middlesex London Health Unit reported one new infection on Thursday. That makes eight new cases so far this week - one Sunday, two Monday, one Tuesday, three Wednesday, and one Thursday.
The region's case count now sits at 743. However, only 13 cases remain active as 673 have been resolved and there have been 57 deaths.
London and Middlesex County have not reported any additional COVID-19 linked deaths in nearly three months.
Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, again reported no new infections over the past 24 hours. The two counties have not recorded any new cases of the virus since August 26. The area’s total number of cases since the start of the pandemic is unchanged at 254.
The number of resolved cases in the region stayed the same on Thursday at 247, while the death toll stands at five, with no new COVID-19 deaths since the start of July.
The region currently has just two active cases.
Ontario's new caseload again neared the 200 mark, with 170 infections confirmed on Thursday. It is an increase from the 149 cases reported on Wednesday but is down from the 185 and 190 infections recorded on Tuesday and Monday.
Public health officials noted more than half of Thursday's new cases were in the Greater Toronto Area.
"There are 55 cases in Toronto today, with 28 in York, 22 in Peel and 12 in Ottawa," Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted.
Of the province's 34 health units, 28 show five or fewer cases, with 14 reporting no new infections.
Ontario's total case count now stands at 43,855.
There was one additional death in the province over the past 24 hours, increasing the death toll to 2,814.
Currently, 54 infected Ontarians are in hospital receiving treatment, with 14 in the intensive care unit.
The number of resolved cases went up by 142 to 39,474.
Over the past 24 hours, the province has conducted more than 24,600 additional COVID-19 tests.
