The Humane Society London & Middlesex (HSLM) is trying to track down the person who left a malnourished Great Dane at the shelter.
The dog, now named "Miracle", was abandoned after hours at 7:30 p.m. Friday. A staff member happened to notice the animal outside within minutes of her being dropped.
"Abandoning animals after hours, especially as we approach the winter months is not a safe method of surrendering a pet to HSLM. Animals left in extreme temperatures for prolonged periods is dangerous," the agency wrote on its Facebook page. "Had the HSLM staff member not been on-site at the time of the incident, Miracle would have been outside the entire evening."
Miracle is roughly four or five years old and has been bred numerous times. She is emaciated and suffering from severe illness and infection. As such, the humane society requires information about the dog's medical history.
"In order to have a better understanding of Miracle’s health history and to find the best course of action for her treatment, we are seeking any information pertaining to Miracle or the person who brought her to HSLM," continued the Facebook post which has been shared more than 1,200 times since Monday night.
Surveillance video taken outside of the shelter shows a man believed to be in his 30s walking the Great Dane to the gate of the dog run and forcing her inside before leaving the area.
HSLM is reminding the public that since August it has waived its surrender donation to try and alleviate financial stress for those making the already tough decision to surrender a pet.
Anyone with information relating to Miracle is asked to contact HSLM at administration@hslm.ca.
