As part of the Classic Rock Local Business Fund, four locally owned businesses in London will receive some well-deserved recognition.
During Classic Rock Mornings with Blair and RV on Friday, the recipients were called and told they were selected to receive a free promotions campaign prize worth $7,500 each.
J.S. Ryan & Co., Weedmark Auto, Nature's Balance, and Old East 765 were the company's chosen out of nearly 400 entries. Like the majority of small businesses this year, all four said they've had difficulties operating during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Restaurant owners have faced tough obstacles throughout the past year by having to turn patrons away from dine-in services.
"It's definitely been the most difficult time I've ever had to experience in my life," said Jim Ferreira of Old East 765. "I say that because it's affected so many people, not just myself, but just even my staff, and even the patrons of 765."
Natures Balance Health Food Inc and J.S. Ryan & Co. Barbershop said they've had to alter the way they conduct business and have struggled with the restrictions put in place by the government.
"It's been a challenge. You have to evolve into different things for your business now since this past year," explained Tawnya Rapposelli with Natures Balance.
Ryan Ford said his barbershop which opened following the first COVID-19 lockdown, does not qualify for provincial funding. He said he is looking forward to some free promotion after his marketing budget was used for other expenditures.
Weedmark Auto received a number of nominations from Londoners who rely on the body shop for simple jobs like an oil change to more complicated work such as engine rebuilds on classic cars.
James Weedmark has become well known within the local auto community. His daughter Michelle told Blair and RV that her dad had to take a step back from the shop during the pandemic for his safety.
"[James] is an extraordinary person. He has a way of talking to people and making people feel comfortable," she explained.
The four businesses will receive free marketing advice, radio commercials, digital ads, and a live show from their stores once safe to do so again.
