A London teen whose life was cut short from COVID-19 is being remembered as a loving son and brother.
The death of 18-year-old Owen Brandies was reported by health officials on Thursday. Brandies is the youngest person to die from COVID-19 in the London region. He was not associated with any long-term care facilities nor was he a post-secondary school student.
Following his tragic passing, loved ones have come together in launching a GoFundMe campaign aimed at allowing his family to honour his life and love for the outdoors.
According to the close friends and organizers of the fundraiser, Brandies did not have any underlying health conditions. They added that the effects of the virus set in quickly and aggressively. The local health unit says the coroner continues to investigate the death.
"Family was of the utmost importance to [Owen], and during this time, we want to show our support for his family in the only way we know how," a statement on the fundraiser page read.
Donations gathered will be used to allow Brandies' mother and sister to take a trip to some mountains, fish, and memorialize their cherished family member.
