The Middlesex London Health Unit says it will continue to prioritize booking first doses for residents 12 and older and won't open re-booking of second dose appointments for people 80 and over for a few more days.
On Friday, the provincial government announced it was speeding up the rollout of second doses for people 80-years-old or older and allowing them to re-book their second dose appointments for an earlier date than what was scheduled when they got their first dose.
"The Province indicated those 80 years of age and older could begin re-scheduling their second dose appointments as early as this morning, given that some health units have more vaccine supply than needed for those seeking first doses in their areas," the health unit said in a statement released Monday. "That is not the case in Middlesex and London, where most vaccine appointments continue to be first doses. Consistent with Provincial direction and in order to maximize the number of individuals who can benefit from a first dose of vaccine as soon as possible, second dose vaccination appointments for most recipients will continue to be scheduled at the longer interval."
The health unit said it expects people 80 and over will be able to re-book their second dose appointment beginning Monday, June 7 or earlier. An update on the timeline is expected on Thursday.
For now, only those currently listed in the Health Unit’s second-dose schedule will be eligible to book an accelerated second dose appointment. Information on second dose eligibility can be found here.
