London area opening second dose re-bookings for seniors 80 and older

Seniors aged 80 and up who've already received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine can soon be fully vaccinated.

The Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU) and Southwestern Public Health (SWPH) announced that those born in 1941 or earlier will be eligible to reschedule their appointment for their second dose to an earlier date starting at 8 a.m. on Monday.

Both health units are focusing on booking spots for the 80 plus crowd starting June 7, but anticipate that those aged 70 and up will be eligible to re-book second appointments between June 10-14.

"We look forward to having those who re-book a second dose appointment becoming fully vaccinated, sooner," said Middlesex-London Medical Officer of Health Dr. Chris Mackie. "The one thing we ask of those who re-book a second dose appointment is to ensure they cancel any previous second dose appointments made, so we can make that time available to others looking to book a first dose appointment for the vaccine."

The MLHU added that the number of appointments available before June 21 will be limited due to a high demand for vaccines and that residents have been able to book appointments up to four weeks in advance. However, health officials say each morning, around 3,500 appointments will be available for the taking.

Additionally, anyone who has received their first dose of the vaccine in another setting or region and needs to schedule their second dose in the next four weeks will be able to do so. This includes those who've received a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and would like their second dose to be an mRNA vaccine, and anyone who received their first dose outside of the region or province.

Re-bookings can be made beginning June 7 either online at www.covidvaccinelm.ca or by calling 226-289-3560 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
