Walk-in vaccination clinic to be held downtown Thursday

A pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic for those who are homeless, under-housed, or can't make it to any of the London region's mass inoculation sites will be held downtown on Thursday.

The Middlesex London Health Unit will host the walk-in clinic at its offices in Citi Plaza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Preference will be given to individuals who have yet to receive their first dose and are unable to attend one of the four mass vaccination clinics operating in London and Middlesex County.

“There are a number of factors that put some downtown residents at higher risk, and we want to help remove barriers like transportation, so that as many people as possible can get vaccinated,” Stephen Turner, the health unit's director of environmental health and infectious diseases, said in a statement. “Our goal has been, and remains, to get vaccine in arms as quickly and as efficiently as we can. The more people who get a dose of vaccine, the better the protection from this virus for all of us.”

The health unit held a similar walk-in vaccination clinic downtown in mid-May. Roughly 100 people who live in shelters and other congregate settings were given their first dose of the vaccine. The one-day clinic showed a continued need to reach those who live downtown, the health unit said.

Appointments are not needed for Thursday's downtown vaccination clinic. However, vaccine supply is expected to become more limited toward the end of the day due to the drop-in nature of the site.
