After five straight days of single digit increases, there were 10 new COVID-19 cases reported by the Middlesex London Health Unit on Tuesday.
The ten new cases bring the local total since the start of the pandemic to 12,519. There are currently 58 active cases in the community.
No deaths from COVID-19 were reported Tuesday. The death toll in London and Middlesex County remains at 224.
The latest figures came out on the same day the Middlesex London Health Unit said hundreds of additional appointments were being added at two of its mass vaccination clinics. The health unit said there will be an additional 500 appointments at the Western Fair Agriplex clinic and 300 more appointments at the Earl Nichols Arena clinic every day for the next two weeks.

The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) has ten patients with COVID-19 in its care, fewer than five of whom are listed in intensive care. COVID-19 patients transferred into the LHSC from regions outside of the London-area include fewer than five acute care patients and zero ICU patients. There is an active outbreak of the virus on University Hospital’s 8TU transplant unit. According to the LHSC, fewer than five patients and fewer than five employees have tested positive in relation to this outbreak. It is the hospital’s first outbreak since March.
In Elgin and Oxford counties, there were four new cases reported Wednesday. Southwestern Public Health said that brings the total caseload since the start of the pandemic to 3,867. There has not been a COVID-19 related death in the region in more than a week, leaving the death toll unchanged at 83. There are 32 known active cases in the two counties.
Ontario reported 255 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the 7-day average for new cases down to 316 per day. There were also 11 deaths reported Wednesday. That brings the provincial death toll to 9,093.
There are 295 people being treated for COVID-19 in Ontario hospitals. Of those, 251 are in intensive care and 162 are on ventilators.
According to the province, more than 227,000 doses of vaccine were given in Ontario yesterday. That marks a record number for the province. Ontario is now averaging about 195,000 doses per day, and at this point, about two-thirds of the total population of the province and more than three-quarters of adults have had at least one dose.
