Drive-thru food drive collecting non-perishables for London Food Bank

Londoners will be able to donate non-perishables to the London Food Bank without stepping foot outside of their cars thanks to a one-day drive thru food drive being held downtown.

Canada Life is hosting the contactless food drive-thru at its main office at 255 Dufferin Ave. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday in an effort to keep food bank shelves stocked over the summer months. The insurance and wealth management company will also be matching all donations collected over the eight hour period up to 5,000 lbs of food.

"So many Londoners, whether we know it or not, start their day without a healthy breakfast and even more go to bed on an empty stomach,” said Jeff Macoun, president and chief operating officer at Canada Life. “By expanding our campaign to include the public and matching every donation pound for pound, I know that together we can make a big difference in so many lives.”

Canada Life has in years past hosted an employee-only food drive to help the local food bank.

In order to ensure the food drop off is contactless, those interested in donating are asked to open their trunk or roll down the window upon arrival. A Canada Life employee will then collect the donations. Financial donations will also be accepted.

Cyclists and pedestrians are also encouraged to participate. Face masks must be worn and physical distancing rules followed while on site.

Approximately 2,700 London-area families per month rely on the food bank.
