As we move out of the pandemic in the coming months and years, the demand to travel from city to city will return.
However, politicians want to make sure we have the capacity to actually meet that demand.
London Deputy Mayor Josh Morgan and Mayor Ed Holder have asked city staff to look into "a conceptual framework for a Regional Transportation/Mobility Hub in downtown London for council's consideration."
The move comes in the wake of Greyhound ceasing Canadian operations as ridership declined during the pandemic, leaving city-to-city travel in flux.
"We also last week had an announcement from the Government of Canada saying they're intending to explore rail enhancements in southwestern Ontario," Morgan said. "So that connection through London all the way to Toronto."
MegaBus and Badder Bus have teamed up to offer daily trips from London to Toronto, but that may not be enough going forward.
"London is well positioned to be a transportation hub for the region, bringing all those modes of transportation together," Morgan added.
Deputy Mayor Morgan spoke with 519 Podcast host Craig Needles about the idea, you can hear that conversation below.
