London Police call off Thames River search

Three days after reports of a man going into the Thames River near the downtown core, London Police have called off their search.

Saturday morning, near the area of Oxford Street and Wharncliffe Road, witnesses told police they saw a man going into the river.

Police sent out rescue teams right away, but were unable to find the man.

"Sadly, after an extensive three-day search involving members of the London Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU), a helicopter from the OPP Aviation Services, London Search and Rescue (LSAR), and the London Fire Department, search efforts have now concluded and the male was not recovered," a police news release said on Tuesday afternoon.

If you have information about this incident, you're asked to call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
