An arson charge has been laid against a London man accused of starting a first that destroyed half a dozen U-Haul trucks.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at the U-Haul storage and rental depot at 745 York St., just east of Lyle Street around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
The blaze was quickly extinguished and no one was hurt. However, six of the company's rental trucks were destroyed and several others were damaged.
Damage is estimated at approximately $500,000.
A 36-year-old London man was arrested shortly after the fire. He has since been charged with one count of arson causing damage to property, London police said on Friday.
The man is scheduled to make his second court appearance by video in relation to the charge.
A U-Haul official has speculated that the blaze was the result of a person siphoning gas from trucks in the lot. He said Jerry cans and gas siphoning tools were found at the scene. Those details have not been confirmed by police.
