The number of flights taking off from the London International Airport this summer has grown again.
WestJet announced on Monday that it will be adding non-stop service from London to Edmonton as of May 19. The new route will run twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.
In addition to the new service, WestJet is increasing the number of direct flights it runs daily between London and Calgary. Canada's second largest airline said it will add a red-eye flight as of June 1, doubling the daily service.
“WestJet continues to invest in our market," Scott McFadzean, president and CEO of the London International Airport, said in a statement. “This is great news for London and the surrounding area, as we continue to give our passengers more options for exciting destinations across the country.”
Earlier this month, Flair Airlines announced it was expanding its summer service out of the London airport to include non-stop flights to Calgary and Winnipeg this June. That is in addition to service from London to Vancouver and Halifax also for the summer.
WestJet's fleet includes five different types of aircraft. It flies to more than 100 destinations in North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
"We are thrilled to be introducing new direct service between London and Edmonton and providing the city with an additional non-stop option to connect to Calgary this summer,” said WestJet Chief Commercial Officer John Weatherill. "We are entering into an exciting chapter of growth at the WestJet Group and we are committed to providing vital domestic route options between Eastern and Western Canada to support travel demand across the country.”
