The 18-year-old killed on the job at an Aylmer feed mill last week will be laid to rest on Tuesday.
The funeral for Ryan Laarman will be held at 11 a.m. at the Redemption Bible Chapel at 250 Commissioners Road East in London, according to an obituary for the teen posted to the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home website.
Laarman lost his footing while working and fell into the shaft of a grain elevator at Elgin Feeds Ltd. around 10:45 a.m. last Wednesday. He was rushed to hospital where he died from his injuries. He had worked at the feed mill part time for the past three years.
Laarman was born in Belleville but lived in Belmont with his parents. He had one brother and two sisters and was a Grade 12 student at St. Thomas Community Christian School.
"He loved music, art, basketball, hunting, and spending time with his friends," his obituary said.
Visitation for Laarman is to be held at Redemption Bible Chapel from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. His funeral at the same chapel on Tuesday will be followed by a private interment in Aylmer.
Laarman's family has asked in lieu of flowers mourners donate to the teen's high school.
"This is the school where he grew up, and he was known and loved," his obituary states.
Employment and Social Development Canada investigators continue to probe Laarman's death. Grain elevators, feed and seed mills, feed warehouses and grain-seed cleaning plants are federally regulated.
Elgin Feeds closed for two days following the death. It reopened last Friday.
