Can Batman save Gotham City from the Penguin and Catwoman and will the Looney Tunes win their freedom with the help of retired basketball champion Michael Jordan?
Londoners will find out when the city hits rewind on the classic 90s films for its "Movies on the Block" outdoor movie night series being held on Dundas Place throughout the month of August.
The free movie nights will take place every Wednesday next month, starting August 2 with a screening of the 1990's hit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In the weeks that follow four other 90s favourites will be shown including Tim Burton's Batman Returns (1992), Clueless (1995), Space Jam (1996), and sci-fi action flick The Matrix (1999).
"With three vintage retailers on the block, we wanted to build on the popularity of 90s fashion, so we’ve selected a series of blockbusters from that era,” Ryan Craven, the city's manager of core area programs, said in a statement. “Dundas Street was previously home to London’s premier movie theatres, including the Capitol, Lowes and London Mews. Through this film series, we are harkening back to the days when Dundas Street was the place to watch movies in London.”
Each movie will begin around 8:20 p.m. on the flex-street between Clarence and Richmond streets. Londoners are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for the outdoor movie experience. However, seating, which is limited, will be on a first-come, first serve basis, the city noted.
Should inclement weather move in during one of the scheduled movie nights, cancellations will be posted on the Dundas Place Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Movies on the Block are being hosted in partnership with Film London.
