A memorial service will be held for a canine officer that died while assisting with an investigation in Woodstock earlier this month.
Woodstock police officials announced Wednesday that they will hold a private memorial on August 1 for PSD Taz.
On July 3, Woodstock's K9 Unit was called in to assist Stratford police with a drug trafficking probe. Early in the investigation, it appeared PSD Taz and fellow PSD Striker had ingested drugs. Narcan was administered to both dogs and they were quickly taken to a veterinarian. Sadly, PSD Taz did not survive the incident.
Only police personnel, family, and friends are being invited to the service. However, community members are invited to show support by lining the roadway of Finkle Street in Woodstock between Southside Park and the Community Complex for a procession.
"The Woodstock Police Service would like to express sincere gratitude to the community as they continue to demonstrate their support during this difficult time," read a statement from Woodstock police.
Those interested in coming out to the procession are asked to arrive by 11 a.m. Parking will not be be available to the public at Southside Park, Finkle Street, or the Community Complex that morning as the area will be closed for those attending the memorial.
Woodstock police will stream the procession live on Facebook for anyone not able to attend in person. Rogers will also air the service the next day on August 2.
