Robbery suspect sought after man found hurt near downtown London

Investigators are probing a mugging that left a man with serious injuries after he was found hurt near the downtown core late last week.

According to London police, at around 6:45 a.m. last Thursday, officers received a call from a citizen who had located a man who appeared to be seriously injured in the area of Queens Avenue and Maitland Street.

Emergency crews arrived a short time later and the victim was taken to hospital with injuries that were considered life-threatening. On Tuesday, police confirmed the victim has since been released.

Through an investigation, members of the Street Crime Unit obtained video footage near the area where the man was found. It revealed that at around 1:30 a.m. on the morning of July 27, the man had been assaulted near Dundas and Maitland streets before the suspect took off with some of the victim’s belongings.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police continue to investigate the assault and are hopeful the public may be able to assist them with a possible lead. Anyone who might have video surveillance near the area the robbery occurred is asked to check their footage for suspicious activity that could assist with the probe.

Possible witnesses are also asked to come forward with possible information that could identify the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call the London Police Service at 519-661-5670, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be made online anonymously to London Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
