A London man faces a list of charges after a traffic stop led to the seizure of a loaded handgun.
According to the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police, an officer was on patrol in Thames Centre around 1:40 p.m. Saturday, when they were alerted by the Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system of a possible suspended driver. Police say the officer stopped the vehicle in parking lot.
"The driver of the vehicle became resistant and assaultive, at which time a member of the public assisted the officer with gaining control of the individual," police said in a media release issed on Tuesday.
Police allege that a search of the driver turned up a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen by Chatham Kent police.
A 30-year-old man is charged with:
Assault with intent to resist arrest
Carrying a concealed weapon
Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
Possession of aWeapon for Dangerous Purpose
Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada
Driving while under suspension Drive a vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
