Provincial police in Elgin County have arrested a St. Thomas teenager accused of going on a crime spree overnight.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday, police were notified that an individual stole a vehicle from an area on Elm Street in Aylmer.
Police said the suspect went on to steal two more vehicles. One was from a home on Conservation Line in Malahide Township, and another from a home on Talbot Street West in Aylmer.
The accused is also said to have broken into the Ultramar gas station in Aylmer and a residence on Belmont Road in Central Elgin.
Police said the suspect took an unspecified quantity of goods and documents from several vehicles parked in front of properties on Ron McNeil Line, Malahide Township, and Belmont Road in Central Elgin.
The young suspect was located on Belmont Road at around 6:20 a.m. Thursday and arrested them without incident. Police allege the teen assaulted an officer while in police custody.
A 16-year-old from St. Thomas faces a lengthy list of charges including
Break and enter of a business or place
Break and enter of a dwelling
Three counts of theft of a vehicle
Possession of property obtained by crime
Possession of an identity document
Assaulting a peace officer
Two counts of failing to comply with a release order, other than to attend court
The accused youth was held for a bail hearing. The teenager cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
