Stargaze at the Fanshawe Pioneer Village

The Fanshawe Pioneer Village and the Hume Cronyn Memorial Observatory are teaming up for the second year in a row for an evening of stargazing.

Astronomy Night will take place on Friday, September 22, and feature presentations on local astronomical history, local discoveries, discussions with real astronomers, displays of antique telescopes and tools used in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

One of the presentations will be a flashback to the past.

"Mark Tovey had done incredible research looking at a conference presentation that was done in the early 1920," said Christina van Hardeveld, public programming coordinator at the Fanshawe Pioneer Village. "Based off the slides from the original presentation and old publication notes, he was able to recreate what this presentation about early astronomy was like"

The night will begin at the Spriet Family Visitor Centre at Fanshawe Pioneer Village at 7:30 p.m.

Once the sun has set, visitors are invited to go outside and enjoy the night sky at the Fanshawe Conservation Area and take a tour of the stars and planets through both modern and antique telescopes.

Advanced tickets are $20, and children ages 0-3 can attend for free.
