A local minor hockey coach facing allegations of abusing a player from London has filed a defamation lawsuit against his accuser.
Huron-Perth Lakers U13 coach, Mike Nicoll, was accused by a parent of "battering and abusing" a player on the team at a practice last October, according to a new defamation suit filed on Nicoll's behalf by Phillip M. Millar of Millars Lawyers.
The defamation suit against Andrew Moorhouse is seeking $1 million in damages. Nicoll's suit claims that Moorehouse became "physically aggressive with his child's coach in front of the team and other parents" due to a dissatisfaction with the allotted ice time granted to the player.
Moorehouse is then claimed to have told Nicoll he would "ruin his career."
Subsequently, Moorehouse accused Nicoll of abusing his son and filed a lawsuit on their and the child's behalf claiming $2 million in damages.
Nicoll's representative in the matter also claims in the defamation suit that "there are many witnesses that in no way support such a claim," in relation to the abuse allegations levied against Nicoll.
"This case represents a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked entitlement and the lengths to which some individuals will go up to and including misusing the legal system, for their own personal agenda," stated Millar. "We will not stand idly by as baseless accusations driven by petty vendettas destroy an innocent man’s life and career."
Millar also states in the defamation claim that "as the legal battle unfolds, it will shine a light on 'Parents Gone Wild' and serve as a cautionary tale for any who attempt to use the legal system and the media to exact revenge and perpetrate vendettas."
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
