Teen driver clocked doing nearly double the speed limit in north London

A 17-year-old is charged with stunt driving after a vehicle was clocked going nearly double the posted speed limit in north London.

A London police officer was on patrol in the area of Adelaide Street North and Windemere Road around 1:20 a.m. on Thursday when a blue sedan was spotted travelling 118 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

The vehicle was pulled over without incident.

According to police, the teen behind the wheel only had a G2 licence.

In addition to the stunt driving charge, the 17-year-old boy has also had his licence suspended for 30 days and his vehicle impounded for 14 days.

"Stunt driving or racing isn’t just about breaking the law, it’s a dangerous decision that can result in tragic consequences. You’re not only putting yourself at risk, but you’re putting other pedestrian and drivers’ lives at risk as well," said Sergeant Ozzie Nethersole of the London Police Service traffic management unit.

A stunt driving conviction in Ontario carries fines ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 and a possible six months in jail. As of April 2022, the provincial government also made it so anyone convicted of stunt driving must complete a driver improvement course or have their licence cancelled.
