Impaired driving charge laid in crash that displaced family

A day after a pickup truck crashed through the wall of a west London townhouse, displacing the family inside, impaired driving charges have been laid.

A vehicle slammed into the parked pickup, forcing it through the brick wall of the home at 741 Berkshire Drive around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The man driving the vehicle, along with two passengers, were taken to hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighters had to rescue the residents from the second floor of the badly damaged townhouse as the crash took out the unit's staircase. There is no word on when they will be allowed to return home. The collision left a large hole in the side of the townhouse, which will have to be assessed by structural engineers. A blue fence has been erected around the affected unit.

A damage estimate has not yet been determined, London police said on Monday afternoon.

A 25-year-old London man is charged with impaired driving and failure to comply with demand by a peace officer. He is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on April 25.

Police are asking anyone with information about the collision to call them at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
